Builder 2.0 Is Now the Default When Creating a New Microapp

When you create a new microapp, Builder 2.0 is now pre-selected in the creation modal. You can still choose Builder 1.0 explicitly if needed — this is a default change, not a removal.

What Changed

Builder 2.0 is now pre-selected in the creation modal. New microapps open in Builder 2.0 unless you explicitly select Builder 1.0 before confirming.

Everything else stays the same:

  • Builder 1.0 is still available in the creation modal as an explicit choice.
  • Existing microapps are not affected — they continue to open in the builder version they were created in.
  • Duplicated microapps retain the builder version of the original.
  • Imported microapps restore in the builder version of the source package.

Why Builder 2.0 Is Now the Default

Builder 2.0 includes the full feature set of Builder 1.0 for the majority of workflows, and adds capabilities not available in Builder 1.0 — including Scroll States, improved adaptive formats, and enhanced canvas performance. Setting it as the default means new microapps benefit from these capabilities without requiring an explicit opt-in.

If Your Team Uses Builder 1.0

Builder 1.0 remains fully supported. If you or your team have workflows that require Builder 1.0, you can continue to select it in the creation modal. There is no planned deprecation timeline for Builder 1.0.

If you're unsure which builder version is right for your use case, contact your Library Administrator or Tiled Support.

Tips for Teams

  • New team members will encounter Builder 2.0 first when creating microapps. Make sure your onboarding materials and documentation point to Builder 2.0 resources.
  • Templates and duplicates preserve the builder version of their source — creating from a Builder 1.0 template still opens in Builder 1.0.

Common Questions

Will my existing microapps be moved to Builder 2.0 automatically?
No — existing microapps stay in the builder version they were created in. Only newly created microapps default to Builder 2.0.

Can I still create a Builder 1.0 microapp?
Yes — select Builder 1.0 in the creation modal before confirming. The option remains available.

I created a microapp and it opened in Builder 2.0 unexpectedly — is that correct?
Yes — Builder 2.0 is now pre-selected. If you need to work in Builder 1.0, create a new microapp and select Builder 1.0 in the creation modal, or duplicate an existing Builder 1.0 microapp.
