Direct Share Links

Let’s walk through direct share links — the way to send a microapp to a specific person by email and track exactly how that individual engages with it. Unlike a public link, a direct link is tied to a recipient, so your engagement data shows you who opened it, when, and what they looked at.

What Makes a Direct Share Link Different

Link type

How it works

Direct

Tied to a named recipient. Engagement data is attributed to that person by name. Best for sales, follow-up, and one-to-one sharing.

Public

Open to anyone with the link. Engagement is tracked but not attributed to individuals by default.

SubTag

For bulk sends through email platforms like HubSpot or MailChimp. Tracks per-recipient engagement at scale.

Two Ways to Open the Share Modal

From the Library (Builder 1.0 & 2.0)

Select the share icon on any microapp card in your Library. The share modal opens with Direct selected as the default tab.

Using Builder 1.0? In Builder 1.0, the share icon appears in the bottom right corner of the microapp thumbnail in your library. In Builder 2.0, it appears in the same position on the card. Either way, the result is the same: the share modal opens directly to the Direct tab.

Right After Publishing (Builder 2.0)

After a successful publish in Builder 2.0, the success screen offers two buttons: Share and View. Selecting Share opens the same share modal directly — no need to return to the library first. This is the fastest path if you’re ready to send the moment you publish.

Generate a Direct Share Link

Once the share modal is open and the Direct tab is selected:

1. Enter the recipient’s email address — type or paste into the email field. The field accepts multiple addresses.

2. Add an optional message — the message is included in the body of the email the recipient receives.

3. Confirm your reply preference — Allow direct replies to my email is checked by default. Uncheck it if you don’t want replies routed to you.

4. Choose how to send — select either Send email or the link icon. See the table below for the difference.

Option

What It Does

Send email

Tiled sends the share link to the recipient on your behalf. Engagement data is tracked automatically from the moment they open it.

Link icon (chain)

Generates a personalized direct link you can copy and paste into your own email, message, or wherever you prefer to send from. The link is still tied to the recipient and tracks their engagement the same way.

Pro Tip: Use the link icon (chain) when you want to send from your own email client with a personalized message, but still need Tiled to track engagement. The link behaves identically to a Send email link in terms of attribution.

Engagement Tracking

Both the Send email and link icon paths generate a link that is tied to the specific recipient. Once they open it, Tiled tracks their session and logs it against their contact record. You can view this data in Engagement Analytics.

Which pages they viewed, and for how long.

When they opened the link.

Whether they came back for a second session.

Pro Tip: Direct links are the highest-fidelity engagement data in Tiled — every session is attributed to a named person. Use them whenever individual tracking matters more than reach.

Reply Notifications

When Allow direct replies to my email is enabled, any reply from the recipient comes straight to your inbox. You can also configure how Tiled notifies you when someone opens a direct share link — see How to Manage Direct Share Replies for the full notification settings.

Common Questions

Question

Answer

What’s the difference between Send email and the link icon?

Both generate the same personalized, tracked link. Send email has Tiled deliver it for you. The link icon copies the link so you can paste it into your own email or message. Either way, engagement is tracked and attributed to the recipient.

Can I send a direct link to more than one person at a time?

Yes — the email field accepts multiple addresses. Each recipient gets their own tracked link so engagement is attributed individually.

Does the recipient need a Tiled account to open a direct share link?

No. Recipients open the microapp through the link with no login required, unless your microapp has Require a Tiled Account enabled in Sharing settings.

Where do I see the engagement data after sharing?

In Engagement Analytics. Direct share engagement appears in Overall Activity and in the recipient’s contact record.

What does Allow direct replies to my email do?

When checked (the default), any email reply from the recipient goes to your inbox directly. Uncheck it if you’re sending on behalf of someone else or don’t want replies routed to you.

Is the link still tracked if I use the link icon instead of Send email?

Yes. The personalized link tracks engagement identically regardless of how you deliver it.
