Before you can create different versions, or instances, of your microapp, you’ll have to develop the structure in a master instance.
To do this, navigate to the microapp settings panel in the builder and choose the instances tab to enable dynamic instances. You’ll want to plan out your instances while designing your microapp so you can leave spaces in your pages for dynamic fields.
Once instances are enabled, you’ll see a row of four data fields: source, field name, data type, and default value. Each row creates a dynamic field that can be used in your instances To add a new dynamic field, just add another row.
Source determines how the data will be populated. We’re going to choose ‘user entry,’ but if you want to automate the process, you can have the field pull from information from Tiled about the microapp’s sender or recipient. If you choose one of these options, the microapp will automatically update based on whoever is using the microapp.
Field Name allows you to decide what the content will be called in order to select/use it in your Tiles. You’ll see we’ve named our fields according to the topics we intend to fill them with.
Data Type indicates what kind of media tile you’ll use in your microapp. We’re choosing text, but photos, videos, and URLs can also be populated with dynamic content.
The Default Value field is where you’ll enter the content you want to appear in the master instance. For videos and images, enter the online URL they’re hosted at (tip: if they’ve been uploaded to Tiled, you can see this by right clicking the asset and choosing ‘copy URL to clipboard’).
To install your dynamic fields, choose the tile corresponding with the type of media you’ve created and selected the name of the field you’ve created. The default value you designated in settings will automatically populate.
Once you’ve placed all your dynamic fields, publish your microapp to create the master instance. Now you can head back into settings and create more instances by selecting the “view instances” button and adding a new instance. Just name the instance, choose an owner, and add new content for each field. New instances can also be created while viewing a microapp so that presenters without builder access can still personalize microapps to their audience. When you want to present or share a specific instance, view a microapp and select the “master instance” tab in the upper toolbar. From there you can launch your desired instance and share or broadcast from inside the microapp.
