Viewer Revamp: Image/Video Asset Browsing

Refined asset library browsing and selection flows to reduce state loss and mis-selections when swapping assets

1. Purpose & Scope

This article documents the Viewer Image/Video Asset Browsing revamp shipped in Tiled v54.0.0. The update refines the asset library browsing and selection flows within the Viewer context to reduce state loss and mis-selections that occurred when swapping assets within a microapp session.

Scope: All Tiled users who interact with image or video assets within the Viewer — including viewers who browse the asset library to select or swap images and videos during a personalized microapp session.

2. What Changed

The asset browsing flow within the Viewer has been redesigned to address two primary user pain points: state loss when cancelling a browse operation, and accidental mis-selections caused by ambiguous selection feedback in the asset library panel.

State Loss on Cancel

Previously, if a viewer opened the asset library panel then clicked Cancel, the currently-selected asset could be lost or reset to a prior state. The revamp preserves the existing asset selection when a browse is cancelled — the current asset is always retained unless a new one is explicitly confirmed.

Mis-selection Prevention

Asset thumbnails now provide clearer visual selection feedback — including a visible selection ring, confirmed check state, and a disabled confirmation button until a selection is made. This prevents viewers from inadvertently confirming an asset swap without clearly selecting a target asset.

Panel State Consistency

Library panel state (scroll position, active category, search query) is now preserved when the panel is opened, browsed, and closed within a session. Viewers returning to the panel see their previous browse state rather than a reset view.

3. User Flow — After v54.0.0

1. Viewer opens an image or video asset browsing panel within a microapp.

2. Viewer browses the asset library and considers options.

3. Viewer cancels — existing asset is retained. No state loss.

4. Viewer selects an asset — confirmation button activates. Viewer explicitly confirms.

5. Asset swapped. Panel closes. Browse state preserved for the session.

4. QA Validation

QA Scope: Viewer/asset library testing — asset browse → cancel state retention, image/video swaps, library panels — completed October 7 through October 21, 2025 per standup records.
