How to Preview Assets on Hover in the Asset Panel
This guide explains how to use hover previews in the asset panel to quickly identify the right asset before inserting it — no clicking or inserting required.
Overview
When you hover over any asset in the asset panel, a larger thumbnail preview appears inline. This makes it faster to identify the right image, video, or file — especially in large libraries or when working with visually similar assets.
Moving your cursor away from the asset dismisses the preview.
How to Use Asset Hover Preview
1. Open the asset panel in the Builder.
2. Hover over any asset thumbnail.
3. A larger preview appears showing the image, video still, or file representation.
4. Move your cursor away to dismiss the preview.
No clicking or inserting is required — the preview appears and disappears automatically as you move through the panel.
When This Is Useful
• Large asset libraries — scan visually without inserting each asset to inspect it.
• Visually similar assets — distinguish between product variants, color versions, or similarly named files before committing to one.
• Faster iteration — compare candidate assets side by side without the insert-review-undo cycle.
Common Questions
Does hovering over an asset insert or change anything in my microapp?
No — the hover preview is view-only. Nothing is inserted or changed until you click to select and insert an asset.
Does the preview work for video assets?
Yes — video assets display a still frame preview on hover.
Does hovering affect performance or slow down the Builder?
No — thumbnail previews are served from the asset library's existing cache. Hovering does not trigger additional asset loading.
Is this available in Builder 1.0?
Yes — hover preview originated in Builder 1.0 and was added to Builder 2.0 for feature parity. You'll find the same behavior in both versions.
