Builder 2.0: Delete Key Guard-Rail for Subpages & Overlays
Keyboard Delete key constrained in the Pages panel to prevent accidental destructive removal of subpages and overlays
This article documents the Builder 2.0 Delete key guard-rail for the Pages panel, shipped in Tiled v54.0.0. The keyboard Delete key is now constrained so that it cannot remove a subpage or overlay when focus is in the Pages panel, preventing accidental destructive edits with a single keypress. This feature was highlighted in October 2025 product communications as part of the safer delete behavior initiative.
Scope: All Tiled users with Builder 2.0 access (Editor and above) who work with microapps containing subpages or overlays.
2. Control Objective
The control objective is to prevent accidental destructive page and overlay removal triggered by the keyboard Delete key when focus is in the Pages panel. Deletion of a subpage or overlay is a significant structural change that is difficult to undo. Constraining the keyboard trigger reduces the incidence of accidental content loss during editing.
3. What Changed
|
Before v54.0.0 |
With the Pages panel focused and a subpage or overlay selected, pressing Delete removed it immediately without confirmation. Undo was the only recovery path. |
|
After v54.0.0 |
Delete is constrained in the Pages panel. Pressing Delete with a subpage or overlay selected does nothing. Deletion must be performed via the right-click context menu or the Pages panel action menu. |
|
Tiles on Canvas |
The Delete key continues to function normally for removing tiles on the main canvas. The guard-rail applies specifically to subpage and overlay structural elements in the Pages panel. |
4. How to Delete Subpages and Overlays
6. Right-click the subpage or overlay in the Pages panel.
7. Select Delete from the context menu and confirm if prompted.
Alternatively:
8. Select the subpage or overlay in the Pages panel.
9. Click the action menu (ellipsis) adjacent to the item name.
10. Select Delete from the action menu.
