How to Lock Layers in Builder 2.0

This guide explains how to lock individual layers in the Builder 2.0 Layers panel to protect finalized elements from accidental edits while you continue working on the rest of your canvas.

Overview

Locking a layer prevents it from being selected, moved, resized, or edited — without hiding it or affecting any other layers. This is especially useful when you have structural or brand elements finalized and want to work freely on the rest of the canvas without the risk of accidentally shifting something important.

Note: Layer Locking is available in Builder 2.0 only.

How to Lock and Unlock a Layer

To lock a layer:

  1. Open the Layers panel in Builder 2.0.
  2. Click the lock icon next to the layer you want to protect.
  3. A lock indicator appears on the layer row, confirming it is locked.

To unlock a layer:

  1. In the Layers panel, locate the locked layer (shown with a lock indicator).
  2. Click the lock icon again to unlock it.
  3. The layer returns to a fully editable state.

Locking a layer only restricts interaction with that layer. Everything else on the canvas continues to work normally.

When to Use Layer Locking

  • Background images or color tiles — lock a full-canvas background so clicking anywhere on the canvas selects foreground tiles instead of the background.
  • Finalized Scroll Tile structures — lock the scroll container once the structure is set so you can continue editing content inside without risk of moving the container.
  • Approved brand elements — lock logos, brand overlays, or approved background compositions that shouldn't be touched while other content is being updated.
  • Team editing sessions — lock layers that are owned or finalized by one team member so others can work on their sections without interfering.

Common Questions

Can I still see a locked layer on the canvas?
Yes — locked layers remain fully visible on the canvas and to viewers of the published microapp. Locking only prevents editing, not display.

Can I lock multiple layers at once?
Lock each layer individually using the lock icon in the Layers panel. There is no bulk lock option currently.

If I lock a group, does it lock all tiles inside the group?
Yes — locking a group prevents all tiles within it from being selected or edited. See the related article on Tile Grouping for more details.

No — the Layers panel lock control is available in Builder 2.0 only.
