Substitution tags, or subtags, provide the same benefits as a direct share for microapps sent in from email platforms such as Mailchimp, Hubspot, or Outreach. Subtags work by passing recipient names to our system so they can be identified in viewer activity. In order to work properly, subtags need to be formatted for your email platform. Because of this, subtag URLs are unique for each microapp and platform, but they aren't different each time they are generated like other share links. The link will become unique once your recipient's name and email is passed through.
Generate a subtag
- Identify the microapp identified for an email campaign in the Tiled library.
- Select the share icon and navigate to the SubTag section.
- Select a platform to generate a SubTag for.
- The link will contain URL parameters to pass values from your CRM to the Link in order to tie User engagement information to your contact records. The link will look similar to this:
https://s.tiled.co/pq5uI5/cab-invite-2022?dynamic=true&recipientId=&recipientName=there-
If you do not see a CRM that you wish to use a subtag for, contact your Customer Success Manager. Subtags can be utilized in nearly any email marketing tool, however Tiled only shows a few of those options.
Use a subtag in an Email Campaign
URL Parameters must match your CRM Configuration
Tiled does not offer support for issues that lie outside of its platform. Therefore, it is very important to ensure the URL parameters in the subtag generated from Tiled contain the same subtag syntax as your email marketing tool is configured. It is essential for the key-value pairing of URL parameters to use the same format.
Using a subtag in an email campaign is just like using a link in an email, with a small exception. A subtag will pass values associated with your contacts from your email marketing tool to the link itself in order to track specific users interaction.
We strongly recommend testing email campaigns before sending them to your audience.
If the subtag has been used properly the link will look similar to the one below, except with your own recipients information:
https://s.tiled.co/pq5uI5/cab-invite-2022?dynamic=true&recipientId=john@gmail.com&recipientName=John-Smith
If you want to send an email directly to a few specific users or through Tiled, you might want to use a direct share link. If you do not know the email addresses of your audience, try using a public link.
